Going to Prolevel to run my drift cars peeked my interest in on road. That is about the only RC I haven’t tried other than airplanes. Did do helicopters for a while. Anyway the on road cars are cool looking and fast as hell. For some reason the F1 cars caught my eye. Started asking questions and Jim let me drive his, that pretty much did it I had to have one.
As luck would have it Sean one of the off road guys had bought an Xray X1-16 but decided to concentrate on his off road cars. He sold it to me for a really good price. All it needed was a set of gears for the servo and a 2S shorty battery and I already had some of those.
Ordered a servo rebuild kit, thank you amazon Prime I had it in 2 days. Rebuild the servo got it installed and the X1 was ready for it’s first trip to the track. At least as me as the owner.
To start I turned the throttle end point down to 50% to start. After several laps I increased it to 55% a few more laps and increased it again. Jim loaned me his transponder so I could get lap times. at 1st it wasn’t calling out the lap time, it was because I wasn’t making minimum speed. Turned up the end point a little more and finally started getting to the 19 sec range. As the evening went on I kept getting faster and faster. While the battery was charging I turned the end point up to 90% and added some Expo to tone down the lower end Batter charged and off we go again. Lap times kept improving though still not what I would call consistent. The fastest lap I turned was 15.9 sec which I was pretty proud of. Still not what I would consider competitive as I think the F1’s are probably in the 12 sec range.
All and all I think it was a good night, I need a lot more practice but I feel pretty good about it.
