Ran across a good deal at Tower Hobby, was able to pickup a 1/18 Dromida Touring car for $115.Normally this car sells for $170. It’s brushless and has a separate esc & rx, oil filled shocks, 7.2v nimh battery. It comes RTR including 4 AA batteries for the tx.
Charged the battery using my UltraPower charger. Was going to do a speed test but decided to run a battery through it first to loosen it up some. I like the size of the 1/18 vehicles, I also have a Dromida SC4.18 which is a brushed SCT. The touring cars looks smaller but that’s because of the body and tires. The chassis is the same.
Started out on the patio track I was actually amazed that it went around it very well. As I remember the SC4.18 had a little trouble with the turns. The track is setup for 1/25 vehicles with 32″ lanes. Took it out and zipped around the driveway some. Took it across the street to the driveway of the other house and ran it there too. Neither place was really large enough to open it up other than for a brief second. On the way back to the house I made a couple of speed runs up and down the street. It has so much power that you have to ease into the throttle or it will spin out. Ease into the throttle after about 1/3 you can nail it and the Touring will take off like a rocket. Going straight at speed it pretty stable but I have my doughts that it could make any turns at speed. Didn’t run the battery all the way down so I don’t have any idea about run time. Will check that later as sometimes it takes a couple of charge/discharge cycles to the a nimh battery to full capacity.
My initial thought is that it’s going to be a fun little car. I want to take it to a larger venue and setup a little course to test it out some more
