Picked up a lightly used ECX 1:24 Roost to check out for the winter indoor RCP type rubber track. I also have 2 WLToys A2x2’s one being the SCT the other the Desert Buggy. Of the 2 the DB turns much sharper. Okay back to the Roost, it runs on a 4.8v niMH battery. At first I was a little disappointed with the run time I was getting about 4 minutes. As I cycled the battery the run times got longer and now it will run 10 minutes or so running on the make shift track I have set up.
I’m not sure if all the ECX 1:24 vehicles have this issue but my Roost does. As the battery runs down the steering starts acting a little crazy. Upon acceleration it will make normally a right turn but sometimes a left. This is the wheels actually turning and nothing to do with over powering a turn. After some thought I think what is happening is that the battery can’t keep up with the power demands so the servo won’t stay centered. I ran it with a 1s lipo and didn’t notice this action.
The ECX Roost turns better than either of the WLToys A2x2’s that I have and as I said the Desert Buggy turns better than the SCT.
There are some mods for putting a 2s lipo in it using a BEC to limit the volts to 5v, some have used a 1s with a higher mah rating and a BEC, and are getting 15-20 minute run times. I haven’t tried anything but a 1s lipo in mine.
The ECX 1:24 vehicles appear to me a viable option for some RCP rubber track style racing.
