Ordered a WLToys A232 Savage SCT off eBay been looking at 1/24th scale RC trucks to race inside in the winter when it to cold and nasty to race on the outdoor tracks. Figured for the price of $55 it was a cheap way to see if it was practical. Running it out in the drive way which is pretty slick it pushed pretty hard in the turns but with 4wd and a little brake you could make it turn. Tried to run it on the carpet in the living room and it didn’t do that well but it would drive. I don’t think it would have a problem on carpet with a shorter nap. It was fast out of the box but I figured most of that was that it was so small that it just looked fast. I pit my Big5 GPS meter on it and was surprised to see 17 mph/27 kph as the peak speed. The box says 40+ kph but to be honest even if it could reach that speed I don’t think it would be controllable. Didn’t time it but the battery lasted a good while and the motor was pretty cool at the end of it all. Come with a 500 mAh 7.4v lipo which as a JST plug. The odd thing is you use the balance plug to power the esc/rx so the JST is only used to charge it. Came with a wall charger with the proper US end on it. Typical wall brick that I didn’t use. I charged the battery using my UltraTech multi-function charger. It’s faster and I know that the cells are balanced.
It needs a hard surface to run, grass kills it in and instant. I did make a few laps around my dirt track and it did ok there though it was a little hard to see at times.
School is still out as to if these will work for some winter indoor fun. My 1st thought is that the little truck will work but as we all know racing uses parts and at this time I don’t know how many parts are available, I know Banggood had some but it takes so long to get stuff from there a person would have to figure out what might break and stock up on those parts ahead of time or maybe buy and extra one for parts. The problem with the extra one is that for a $79 you can get an ECX at the local hobby shop and they do have replacement parts you and walk in and buy.
