Been looking at small R/C vehicles to race indoors during the winter months. Talking about basement and garage tracks here so the cars need to be small. Seems that 1/24 scale will be about the right size. Got the idea after seeing an ad in a magazine for a Micro X sold by nitrorc.com. Their Desert Buggy was $59.99 plus $13.50 shipping so now it’s almost in the $80 range. Also was looking at the Losi 1/24 but the brushed version came with a NI-MH battery and a 27 Mgz radio, come on Losi that is old school who uses 27 Mgz any more, that one runs $109. They have a brushless on that runs $179 but is lipo and 2.4 Ghz. Then there is the ECX 1/24 that is brushed, NI-MH battery, and 2.4 Ghz radio and you can use the Losi lipo in it too this one rund $79.
So while I was looking at reviews on the above I come across the WLToys A222 which is a 1/24 scale desert buggy, brushed, lipo battery, and 2.4 Ghz radio, all this for $54.99 from Banggood. Starting looking at youtube reviews on it and all I saw were positive. Small minor things here and there but basically it got good grades everywhere. WLToys have 6 vehicles all using the same platform with different bodies and tires. They are as follows A202 Offroad buggy, A212 Monster truck, A222 Desert Buggy, A232 SCT, A242 Rally car, and A252 Drift car.
These all have a metal chassis plate and a metal brace on the top tying the back and front together. Advertised speed is 40 kmh but the best I have found in test (not mine) was 32 kmh which equals around 20 mph, not bad for a 1/24 scale vehicle. I liked what I saw and the $55 price tag with free shipping was a pretty good deal. It should be here in 6-9 days after they ship it. We’ll see how long it really takes. More after it arrives.
